The Story
AJ Fernandez Cigars traces its roots to San Luís, Cuba, where Abdel's grandfather started the San Lotano brand. Born in Cuba in 1979, Abdel followed his father to Nicaragua in 2003 and began making cigars on three rolling tables in his house, experimenting with fermentation techniques that would become his hallmark. His first major break came from Rocky Patel, who contracted him to produce seasonal releases. This partnership helped fund the construction of his own factory. In 2012, he completed a large new facility in Estelí, and by 2016 had expanded with an additional 117,000-square-foot factory in Ocotál. Today, AJ Fernandez produces more than 30 different cigar brands across his operations, including the acclaimed New World, Enclave, Last Call, and his eponymous AJ Fernandez lines. He is also the master blender behind contract brands like Diesel and Man O'War, making him one of the most prolific and respected blenders in the modern cigar industry.
