The Story
The Arturo Fuente cigar brand was born in 1912 in West Tampa, Florida, when 24-year-old Cuban émigré Arturo Fuente launched A. Fuente & Co. A catastrophic fire in 1924 froze production for 22 years until the brand re-emerged in 1946 under Arturo's son, Carlos Fuente Sr. After their Nicaraguan factory was destroyed during the Nicaraguan Revolution in 1979, the Fuente family relocated to the Dominican Republic in 1980, establishing Tabacalera A. Fuente in Santiago. This move would define the brand's identity, as the Dominican terroir became central to their acclaimed blends. Under the leadership of Carlos Fuente Jr., the brand achieved legendary status with the 1992 launch of the Fuente Fuente OpusX — the first successful Dominican puro — which remains one of the most sought-after cigars in the world. Today, the company produces approximately 30 million cigars annually, with lines spanning from the accessible Curly Head to the ultra-premium OpusX, along with iconic series like Hemingway, Don Carlos, and Anejo.
