The Story
Zino Davidoff, born in 1906 in Ukraine, grew up in his family's Geneva tobacco shop, which became a global destination for cigar aficionados and earned him the nickname 'King of Cigars.' He revolutionized cigar retail and culture, naming his 'Château' series after famous Bordeaux wine estates beginning in 1946. In 1967, Cubatabaco approached Davidoff about creating a cigar line bearing his name, produced at Havana's El Laguito factory. However, citing quality concerns, Davidoff transitioned production to the Dominican Republic in 1991 — a move that would define the brand's modern identity. Owned by Oettinger Davidoff AG of Basel, Switzerland, the company today manufactures cigars and accessories under the Davidoff, Camacho, AVO, and Zino Platinum brands. Tobacco is sourced from the Dominican Republic, Nicaragua, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Ecuador, Honduras, and the United States, with production centered in the Dominican Republic and Honduras. Davidoff remains the benchmark for luxury cigarmaking.
